The two-and-a-half year undergraduate Visual Communication Design program provides a conceptual foundation for students to develop critical thinking skills in design.
The curriculum itself is comprehensive and provides adequate knowledge and expertise in graphic design skill-sets like typography, layout, publication and book design, information design, design for the web, photography, creating corporate identity and branding, mass communication theory and media mix, illustration and exhibition design.
The program facilitates an understanding of the process of Visual Communication by engaging in coursework and class projects covering a variety of print and design projects. Inter-disciplinary studies in arts and humanities are combined with studies in visual form, design history and theory, concept and image generation, studio and digital methods providing students with appropriate tools to enrich both their lives and careers.
Visual Communication Design
Visual Communication Design Program is designed to immerse its learners in the widest possible breadth of knowledge and skills through bridging; systems design, narrative design, research and analysis, cultural and ethnographic studies, patterns & communication studies within the context of history, society, business and technology.
The program focuses on the thinking and inquiring ability as well as visualization skills in the students. Ability to pursue contextual inquiry, concept ideation, and presentation of design solutions forms a crucial learning curve for any visual communication designer. At Srishti, we provide an atmosphere that encourages thinking divergent as well convergent, specific as well as generic. Students learn to base their work and their inspiration on a wide breadth of issues that help build relationships and link ideas. Visual Communication Design graduates from Srishti are able to identify, integrate and organize ideas, which can then be translated into design solutions.
The curriculum of Visual Communication Design Program covers five major areas of design. All the 5 areas have a good balance of liberal arts, studio and theory based courses:
4) Print & Production
This age old form of Visual Communication still forms the basis of fundamental studies in 2D communication design. Courses include Typography, Letterform Design, Layout Design, Creative Binding Techniques, Printing & Finishing Methods, Printing Mediums, Publication Design, Photography for Communication and History of Design.
Throughout the two years of PDP studies in Visual Communication Design, learning is often taken away from teacher-centered classroom lessons to activities that are field based, interdisciplinary, and integrated with real world issues and practices. This is achieved through Workshops, Conference Participation, Exhibition Visits, Project Based Learning, and Industry Presentations.
Upon graduation, Visual Communication Design graduates have the choice of working as Designers in any of the 50 or so major design studios across India, or be part of in-house Design Teams of any of the large multinational corporates, or work as communication designer with any of the hundreds of NGOs across India, or set up their own design practice or freelancing consultancy. Our graduates also pursue higher studies in design schools in USA, Europe or Australia.
