Srishti Independent Studies Program is offering a Masters Diploma in Aesthetics and Critical Studies that focuses on contemporary artmaking and aesthetic, critical and political theory. It will be constituted by Artists, Critical Theorists, Cinema Studies and Curators who will work together and produce in the same space. Our aim is to generate as much enthusiasm for reading, writing and critical thinking as for art making. The environment strongly encourages contemporary and conceptual art practices, experimental work, including multi-media installations. Aesthetics, art history, politics, philosophy, history, psychoanalysis, film studies, feminism, postcolonial studies, performance studies, gay and lesbian studies, queer theory, and other social, economic, political and cultural aspects will feature in the course.

It is a one year program dedicated to training and nourishing the next generation of professional artists and critics, fostering rigorousness in both theory and practice while encouraging innovation within the broadest context possible. Its creative environment will actively promote the intellectual context for artistic experimentation. In addition, Srishti provides a robust liberal arts education for those who require such support.

The program prepares students to thoughtfully challenge the prevailing conventions of artistic expression, develop new forms, and become innovators and leaders in their chosen fields. The independent studies will involve intellectually rigorous methods of inquiry and reflection into the creative process.

The expertise of our faculty will be complemented with an extensive series of readings, lectures, workshops and longer-term residencies by a diverse range of visiting artists, designers and theorists. Our students benefit greatly from the dynamic, highly multidisciplinary creative environment of Srishti, where different branches of the arts freely commingle.
