Bani Singh. Bani has a 22 years experience of having worked as a design consultant on a wide range of projects including furniture and textiles. More recently she has chosen to focus on the area of cultural studies and has worked as a content interpreter/visualizer while working closely with the design/research teams that evolved the design language and installations for the Khalsa Heritage Center at Anandpur Sahib.
As a visiting faculty at the Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology she intends to bring together her interests by demonstrating how design is a powerful tool at the interface of material and culture.
While continuing to work on projects in this domain she works closely with the students, searching for fresh directions while mentoring and guiding the students in their design projects.
Krupa Thimmaiah. Krupa works with IT for Change, an NGO based in Bangalore that works with technology (policy, advocay and practice) for the development sector. With IT for Change, she has worked in Mysore specifically looking at community radio for marginalised women. She has worked with HIV/AIDS projects in Karnataka (India – Canada Collaborative HIV/AIDS Project and Karnataka Health Promotion Trust) as Programme Officer, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) where her work included communications training for field staff and the communities that the projects worked with. Krupa has seen a number of materials through from design to production. She is an alumna of Srishti, School of Art, Design and Technology. During her student days she was part of a team that produced ‘Silent Spaces’ a film on sexuality for urban youth.
Rachel Miller. Rachel Miller received her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in
Michigan and her BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Working between New York City and India, she teaches in the Textile Design Department at Srishti. Her artwork includes sculpture, installation, site specific, performance and costume, uses both the body and landscape as cynosure and subject; she coalesces topics from ritual, archeology, architecture, travel, textiles, and nature.
Rachel designs sets, costumes, and textiles, both independently and for films, theatre, and dance. Her work has been featured in several theatres and exhibitions, including 175 Gallery, South Korea; Museum of Arts and Design, New York; Teatro Avvaloranti, Citta della Pieve, Italy; Teatro Mancinelli, Oriveto, Italy; PS 122, New York; Opie Gallery, MO; the Rosalie Borowsky Gallery, PA; the Cranbrook Museum of Art, MI. She teaches and lectures at various institutions, including the Fiber Department at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Museum of Arts and Design, and the Center for Architecture in New York City. She has been a faculty member for both the Fiber and Foundation Department at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and has led arts education professional development programs at the South Street Seaport Museum and the Intrepid Museum in New York City. Miller’s work has been published, commissioned, and reviewed internationally, and is included in both public and private collections.
