The Impact Edge projects combine business strategy with design thinking, by designing businesses that seek to make a social impact profitably, while creating an aspirational future for the communities that engage in it.
Students started by learning the basics of a business, gathering experience of the context through fieldwork, engaging with various stakeholders, and thinking through business strategies for potential solutions. These solutions were then measured against their ability to generate viable livelihoods, while using appropriate local resources and improved technologies. In the process of arriving at a business solution, appropriate research methods were employed for gathering knowledge of the communities and the market, by identifying the needs of prospective consumers.
The final outcomes from the projects include everything from skill upgradation of artisans to product diversification through value-engineering to product development for new markets. These solutions are supported by Business Models that guide the desired outcomes for financial, social, cultural and environmental sustainability.
Shaurya Rastogi came up with the product idea of a contemporary Yoga Mat that will help artisans from Tripura to capitalize on their skills and create a sustainable business.
