Serkan Taycan is an artist, engineer and an academic. He focuses on the transformation of urban and rural spaces, and the physical, social and ecological impact of this transformation. Diverse imaginations and projections regarding the future and conditions of humanity as part of these process. His artistic practice is a research project somewhere between engineering, ecology and visual art. After studying engineering, Serkan Taycan completed a master class on documentary photography at Nordens Fotoskola, Sweden. He completed his MFA degree in Visual Arts at the Sabancı University, Istanbul and in Photography at the Aalto University, Helsinki. He works primarily with photography and maps and also engages with walking. His work has been exhibited at the Venice Architectural Biennial, Istanbul Biennial, Helsinki Photography Biennial, Sinop Biennial and Thessaloniki Photography Biennale. He has been a resident artist at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris in 2015 and the Delfina Foundation, London in 2016. Taycan is a member of RecCollective. He lives and works in Istanbul where he teaches undergraduate-level courses on urban culture and arts at the Bilgi University .
